I participated in Paint It Orange in Orange County Arts Commission’s 5th Annual Plein Air painting event. 56 artists from 4 states spread out thru Hillsborough, Carrboro, and Chapel Hill to seek something to paint outside. This was not my first time painting outdoors, but it was my first time participating in this event. Even though there were awards and recognition being offered, I set out to complete the challenge. Just doing that would be my reward!
It rained on the second of the three days prescribed for Paint It Orange. I was determined to complete at least two paintings. So I drove myself in Merritt’s Grill parked my car and began and finished this second 8×10 watercolor. Yes, I grabbed lunch too – a delicious BLT with Avocado for which they are famous. Both may paintings had to be popped directly into awaiting frames and made ready for delivery to the Eno Arts Mill in Hillsborough by 1 pm on the third day.
The Exhibition containing over 150 paintings created by scores of artists in a variety of media runs thru the end of November at the Eno Arts Mill, 437 Dimmcoks Mill Rd, Suite 17, Hillsborough, NC. I am grateful to have completed it and will make sure to do it again. There is something exhilarating about painting outside and then being able to have a show directly afterwards!
